Bio
Gretel Fairbrother was admitted to the Bar in 2000 and specialises in criminal defence work. Gretel worked with her father, Russell Fairbrother KC (now retired), for much of her career and continues to represent people charged with murder, manslaughter, drug offending, as well as sexual assaults and other serious violence.
Before entering law, Gretel completed a science degree in 1996, driven by a strong interest in environmental issues and animal rights. She served for several years on the executive committee for an animal rights group and worked for the World Wildlife Fund, involved in projects in Australia and Fiji, for a period before returning to her criminal law practice.
Her early academic background continues to inform Gretel’s analytical approach to legal problem-solving and reflects her longstanding dedication to ethical causes and social justice.
Gretel is now working exclusively as a criminal defence lawyer and works out of Aurora Chambers in central Wellington.
